TAMPA BREAKWAY FESTIVAL – April 26th-27th

By Chyrisse Tabone, Rock At Night Tampa Correspondent

Rock At Night loves to support the Vans Warped Tour and of course, all the bands involved. We are starting a series of articles to introduce you to some of the newcomers who will be on the 2016 Vans Warped. Meet MOTHER FEATHER from Brooklyn, New York!

GET TO KNOW MOTHER FEATHER IN 10 QUESTIONS

Rock At Night is really excited to introduce you to the world. Tell us about the band… What are your names and what instrument does each person play?

We are: Matt Basile on bass, Chris Foley on guitar, Elizabeth Carena on keys and vocals, me, Ann Courtney, on vocals, and this summer Caitlin Kalafus is joining us on the drums!

How long have you been together and how did the band form?

Mother Feather has been together since late 2009/ early 2010, when I had a massive, life-altering pop cock rock epiphany which inspired me to start the band.

How would you describe the genre of music?

It’s pop cock rock.

Do you have any EPs or albums out?

“Mother Feather,” our debut album on Metal Blade Records, is out now!

Is this your first Warped Tour? What was the first thing you did when you found out you were going on the Warped Tour?

Yes, this is our first Warped Tour. The first thing I did was text the band!!!

Have you toured before with the band? If so, what is the best thing about touring and the worst thing?

Mother Feather has done some traveling but this is our first “real tour.” Pretty great start!

The Warped Tour helps a lot of non-profits. Is there a particular charity or non-profit that is dear to your heart?  Tell me a little about it.

Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls is an incredible organization that empowers girls through music education!

What do you think is the biggest challenge that young people face today?

Gadgets and noise. I think young people need the opportunity to be in their own brains and imaginations, but there is so much stimuli constantly drawing their attention away. It’s hard enough as it is to find your own voice, and young people now have so many more seductive distractions.

What stage will you be playing on?

We are playing the Full Sail University stage.

Do you have any advice for bands starting out? What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned along the way?

Find the thing you want to do and get better at it. Find your people and work smarter, not just harder. Fear is a trap and should be kicked in the face.

Mother Feather are:
Ann Courtney – Vocals
Elizabeth Carena – Vocals/Keyboards
Chris Foley – Guitar
Matt Basile – Bass Guitar
Gunnar Olsen – Drums
