It was another cold night in the Black Forest here in southwest Germany. This year the winter is warm but the nights are still cold. This the perfect reason to escape and drive 100 kms to listen to one of the most powerful voices to come out of the Sixties: MITCH RYDER!

The concert took place at the famous JAZZHAUS in FREIBURG City–one of the most well-known places in the music scene in Germany. Prestigious artists perform in this old wine cellar almost daily, with its marvelous architectural structure which provides a wonderful atmosphere for listening to all kinds of music. They have incredible programs all the time.

I’m always so surprised to see how German people go outside to concerts–even in the middle of the week. Well, FREIBURG is an important University town but it’s not the only explanation for that. People go out not just to discover new names, new bands, but also to have a good time meeting old heroes. As it was MITCH RYDER, the legendary icon from Detroit, which has a reputation of being a great rock and roll town.

We were born on the same day (26 February) but at 71 he’s still in good shape! His gruff, wailing singing style (soul and American rhythm and blues) and his dynamics on stage are still unbroken. His voice, like an old Graves Bordeaux Wine, is becoming vintage! Better than ever.

He rocked Jazzhaus with his awesome new band called ENGERLING. Mitch played the oldies and four special winks to the Rolling Stones (“Gimme Shelter”), James Brown (“Living In America”), Jimmy Cliff (“Many Rivers to Cross”) and the last song of the show with the Door’s hymn “Soul Kitchen”.

A great ticket to Ryde on Rock and Roll !!
