The Nordic music scene is very much alive and, outside of its homelands, London is very much a part of that scene even beyond the monthly Ja Ja Ja Nordic Music Club, whose primary objective is to promote the region’s artists. One of the reasons that Nordic music is so healthy is because the governments actively support musicians of all genres, and all genres do come from there, whether it is Swedish pop, ethereal Icelandic electronica or the darkest, loudest metal you can imagine coming from Denmark or Finland.

Slutface are a four-piece from Norway whose music is a lot more fun than their name would suggest. While its roots are in grunge, the sound is an unashamedly commercial interpretation, with the band’s name keeping it off the commercial airwaves.

The band played their first UK date, headlining a free gig to launch their single “Shave My Head”, at The Old Blue Last in Shoreditch on 24 October 2015. With a largely Norwegian audience, the band certainly made an impression on everyone there. Support came from Annabel Allum, accompanied by her Fender Mustang, who opened with a riveting solo set of personal songs. Duo Rickyfitts turned it up a notch or three with a noisy, energetic set that was a match for anything that similar bands such as Slaves or Royal Blood are producing.
